How does the color of vanillin (TLC) work?

I work on a project where I'm completely toasted on all aspects of it, if I'm ready. I use a vanillin stain for visualization, but I have not been able to find all the results on the why it works like a stain. Any help would be very grateful!

Vanillin is an aldehyde, which reacts with the samples on the TLC plate. As with all TLC spray / patches, they react with the sample to a visible minority Colors produce. Or they react Form to get a connection, the form visible under UV light.
