Did Dickon at the end of "My Secret Garden" 1987 edition?

At the end of the film, they discover that Dickon is dead or not? It are two versions of "my secret garden" and I want to know not only the 1987 edition, the 1993 edition.

Dickon as is already mentioned, killed in the war, but he died as a soldier, not a child. I think his death is mentioned in the story of Mary as an adult. He has spent two decades since I saw this movie, so I do not really have a good memory. I know better than I liked the version b & w, and I like the 1993 version.
